Can I embed an open 3D surface mesh inside a volumetric MMG3D mesh?

Hello,

I have an existing tetrahedral volume mesh and a separate open 3D surface mesh. I’d like MMG3D to imprint that surface into the volume mesh—so that the resulting mesh contains an internal boundary corresponding to my surface—and assign it its own boundary tag.

Is it possible to implement this workflow in MMG?

Thanks for any guidance or example commands!

Hello,

Thank you for your question. Currently, it is not possible to perform an open surface level-set discretization in MMG. However, this feature is currently being developed.

Kind regards,
Corentin

Hi Corentin,

Thank you for your response.

I’m very interested in this feature. Is there any way I could get involved in its development—whether through testing code, preparing example cases, or eventually contributing to the latest advances in open surface meshing? I’d be keen to help in any way I can.

Thanks again,
Thyagi
